NEW YORK — Former TOFA100 honoree Jordan Clarkson added an NBA championship to his résumé, helping lead the New York Knicks to a Finals victory and marking a historic moment for Filipino representation in basketball.

Clarkson, a Filipino American guard known for his scoring off the bench, played a key veteran role throughout the Knicks’ title run. His presence in the Finals alongside fellow Filipino Dylan Harper ensured that, for the first time in league history, a player of Filipino heritage would win an NBA championship.

The Knicks’ return to the Finals also carried franchise significance, marking their first appearance since 1999. Clarkson, who joined the team in the 2025–26 season, made an immediate impact as a veteran presence on a roster seeking a championship breakthrough.

For Filipino fans around the world, particularly in the Philippines where basketball is deeply embedded in the culture, the moment resonated far beyond the hardwood.

Clarkson was recognized by The Outstanding Filipino Awards (TOFA) in 2020 as part of its TOFA100 list of influential Filipino Americans. That year marked TOFA’s 10th anniversary, celebrated virtually at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when in-person ceremonies, traditionally held at Carnegie Hall, were canceled. At the time, Clarkson was a standout guard for the Utah Jazz, where he would go on to win the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award in 2021.

Clarkson’s recognition reflected not only his on-court success but also his role in elevating Filipino visibility in global sports. His connection to the Filipino community has extended beyond the court, including a 2017 fan meet at the Philippine Consulate in New York, where he engaged with supporters and launched a fan initiative.

Selected in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft, Clarkson built his career through stops with the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Utah Jazz before joining the Knicks. Known as one of the league’s premier sixth men, he brought scoring, energy and experience to a team on the rise.

Beyond the NBA, Clarkson has proudly represented the Philippines as a member of Gilas Pilipinas, strengthening his ties to his Filipino heritage.

With the title secured, Clarkson’s journey comes full circle — from a TOFA honoree recognized during a challenging global moment to an NBA champion on the sport’s biggest stage.
