TOFA honoree Lea Salonga, the Tony- and Olivier-winning actress and singer, has been selected to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Live Theatre/Performance category as part of the Class of 2026. The honor makes her the first Filipina and one of only a few people of Filipino descent to receive this recognition.

The initiative to secure the star was led by the Manila International Film Festival, whose cofounder Lisa Lew is also a TOFA honoree, underscoring how Salonga’s achievements resonate deeply with the global Filipino community. The date and exact location of her star ceremony have yet to be announced.

Even as she awaits that milestone, Salonga continues to keep a full performance schedule. She is preparing for an 11-show holiday cabaret engagement in New York City and has recently completed a series of concerts and stage appearances overseas, including runs in the United Kingdom and other major international venues. Her current tour calendar continues to take her to theaters and concert halls across the globe.

Salonga’s career remains one of the most celebrated in musical theater. She won both a Tony Award and an Olivier Award for her breakthrough role in “Miss Saigon,” gave voice to Disney princesses Jasmine and Mulan, and has portrayed iconic characters such as Éponine and Fantine in “Les Misérables.” Through these roles and countless concerts, she has opened doors for Asian and Filipino performers on some of the world’s most visible stages.

In a recent personal update, Salonga confirmed that she and her husband of 20 years, Robert Chien, have separated but remain on good terms as co-parents to their son. Despite changes in her private life, she has not slowed down professionally, continuing to accept projects that bring pride and joy to Filipino audiences everywhere.

Her relationship with The Outstanding Filipino Awards goes back to TOFA’s beginnings. Salonga was an inaugural TOFA awardee in 2011 at Carnegie Hall in New York, at a time when TOFA was still finding its place in the Filipino American community. Despite her stature as an international star, she chose to attend in person, lending prestige and generosity of spirit to a fledgling awards night that has since grown into a premier celebration of Filipino excellence.

For TOFA News readers, Salonga’s forthcoming star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is not just another accolade. It is a new chapter in a career that has consistently elevated Filipino visibility — from Carnegie Hall and Broadway to the West End and soon, Hollywood Boulevard.
