Filipino-Canadian fashion producer Limuel Hayag Vilela marked another international milestone as his global fashion production house, Spotlight Couronne Internationale (SCI), staged a premiere runway showcase at Moda in Tokyo, held at the Hilton Tokyo Bay.
The Tokyo presentation featured “Hikari” by SCI PH Averynthe, a collection centered on collaboration, sustainability, and cultural storytelling. The showcase brought together models, including youth participants from SCI’s Canada-based programs, highlighting the organization’s continued focus on mentorship and global exposure.
“My heart is filled with gratitude as we look back on this incredible milestone,” Vilela said in a social media post following the event, describing the show as the realization of a long-held vision built on “passion, courage, and dedication.”
Vilela, president and CEO of SCI and SCI PH, has steadily expanded his fashion production footprint across major cities, mounting shows in Canada, New York, the Philippines, Paris and Milan. His work centers on elevating Filipino designers and creatives onto international platforms while fostering opportunities for emerging talent, including children and teens.
Beyond production, Vilela collaborates with creative director Alvin Masangkay Francia on collections that blend accessible luxury with Filipino identity and narrative. His initiatives also include training programs and workshops aimed at developing confidence, personality, and runway skills among young participants.
His rise in the global fashion scene reflects a story rooted in perseverance. Born in Quezon province in the Philippines, Vilela grew up in poverty and worked as a houseboy to support himself. He later graduated magna cum laude and pursued opportunities abroad, eventually building an international fashion enterprise while also working as a flight attendant in Canada.
Today, Vilela is regarded as a key figure in promoting Filipino talent worldwide, creating pathways for designers to transition from local showcases to global runways.
His contributions to the Filipino diaspora and entrepreneurship were recognized at The Outstanding Filipino Awards (TOFA) in America, where he received honors during ceremonies held in Hawaii in October 2024.
