Rasmin Diaz has spent years singing on major stages, from NBA Filipino Heritage Nights to concert halls in New York and beyond.
On Aug. 28, the Filipino singer will take a different step in her musical journey with the release of “Kasi Nandiyan Ka,” her first Taglish single.
The song is an uplifting love song built around reassurance: the belief that even during difficult moments, someone remains beside you.
At the center of the song is the line, “Di mo ko iniwan,” or “You did not leave me.” The message reflects hope, loyalty and the comfort of knowing that love can remain steady through uncertainty.
“Kasi Nandiyan Ka” blends Filipino and English lyrics, a first for Diaz, who has released six singles across Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming platforms. Her new release is scheduled to be available Aug. 28.
For Diaz, the single adds a new layer to a career that has moved between pop, jazz, Broadway standards, original music and Filipino songs. Her voice has reached audiences at Madison Square Garden, Barclays Center, Citi Field, Capital One Arena, Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, Kings Theatre and venues in Los Angeles, Honolulu and Las Vegas.
She is also a member of the TOFA Performing Artists, a group that has performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Filipino Heritage Night programs around the United States. The ensemble performed the national anthem at Madison Square Garden for a New York Knicks game, following earlier NBA appearances at Barclays Center and Capital One Arena.
Diaz’s career has been shaped as much by her personal journey as by performance. Born and raised in Cagayan de Oro, she moved to the United States and joined many overseas Filipinos working to support family members in the Philippines.
During a solo concert in Manhattan, Diaz reflected on the emotional distance that can accompany that responsibility.
“Being apart from one’s family is much easier said than done,” she told the audience. “I work hard to provide for my loved ones back home. It makes me happy and sad at the same time.”
She said she found her earliest musical inspiration as a child, singing along to radio songs at home and later listening closely to the OPM hits of the 1990s. Those influences remain part of her musical identity, even as her repertoire has expanded to international pop, jazz and theater standards.
“Kasi Nandiyan Ka” draws from that mix of musical worlds. Its Taglish lyrics reflect the language many Filipinos and Filipino Americans use in daily life, while its message speaks to a broadly familiar experience: holding onto faith in a person who stays when circumstances become difficult.
The title translates to “Because You Are There.” For Diaz, the song is meant to encourage listeners not to lose hope, whatever they are facing, because enduring support can make even the hardest moments more bearable.
“Kasi Nandiyan Ka” will be available on Spotify, Apple Music and other major streaming platforms beginning Aug. 28.
