If Michael Cinco’s runway was an exercise in celestial power, Alexis Monsanto offered an equally theatrical counterpart rooted in romance, narrative silhouette and Old Hollywood drama.
Presented on Sept. 12 at the historic Angel Orensanz Foundation during New York Fashion Week powered by Art Hearts Fashion, Monsanto’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection transported attendees into an atelier of vintage allure. Against a black-mirrored runway and video backdrops showcasing dressmaking sketches, tape measures and tailoring shears, the Los Angeles designer delivered a deeply personal showcase that balanced playful whimsy with red-carpet sophistication.
A defining highlight of the runway was Monsanto’s collaboration with designer Amiel Noble of Noble Creations. Together, the collection reimagined classic Filipino formalwear through contemporary silhouettes. Menswear took center stage with luminous barong jackets featuring delicate embroidery, Mandarin collars, tasseled closures and pleated wide-leg trousers. Models carried structured embroidered tote bags bearing the Monsanto name, demonstrating how traditional Filipino motifs can effortlessly translate into modern luxury menswear.
The women’s looks shifted from vibrant pop silhouettes to sweeping red-carpet confections. Opening looks embraced pastel and candy-colored palettes, pairing corseted cocktail dresses with off-the-shoulder draping, 3D floral appliqués and thigh-high boots.
Monsanto then explored architectural drama through feathered textures and structured cages. Standout pieces included an ombré sunset mermaid gown layered with cascading tulle ruffles, an airy multicolore cape-gown blooming with floral embroidery at the bodice, and an extraordinary sheer lattice cage dress trimmed in plush feathers that transformed classic crinoline into high-fashion sculpture.
The runway reached its emotional crescendo with bridal grandeur. A show-stopping ivory and pale peach bridal gown was presented by Monsanto’s muse, reigning Miss Universe Haiti 2026 Tatenda Rameau, who served as the final model to walk the collection. Mid-runway, a live transformation unhooked the voluminous outer skirt to reveal a structured, feather-accented mini dress underneath, drawing spirited cheers from the front rows.
The presentation followed an earlier program hosted by Jessy Daing and Jcas Castro of Over a Glass or Two, featuring musical performances and New York State Assembly citations presented by Assemblymember Steven Raga. Honorees included Monsanto, Noble, Cinco, jewelry designer Charlie Lapson, Almée Couture’s Sokhong Taing and Art Hearts Fashion founder Erik Rosete. Guest of honor Attorney Loida Nicolas Lewis, joined on stage, alongside co-producers Hannah Suarez, Eddy Aranez and TOFA executive producer Elton Lugay.
Monsanto emerged for his finale bow to a standing ovation, escorted hand-in-hand by Rameau and receiving bouquets of fresh flowers. For an audience celebrating Filipino creativity on the world stage, Monsanto proved that true glamour lies in storytelling, craft and unwavering theatricality.
