Arawko LLC has received federal trademark registration for Kumusta Pusa, its Filipino-inspired children’s literacy and cultural brand.

The Honolulu-based company said the registration will help protect and expand Kumusta Pusa as it develops books, educational resources, merchandise and partnerships for children, families and educators.

Kumusta Pusa is the central character in the “Kumusta Pusa Loves” children’s book series, which introduces young readers to Filipino language, traditions, family values and culture through stories and illustrations. The name translates to “How are you, Cat?”

“Our vision has always been to create stories that help children discover the joy of reading while fostering pride in Filipino culture,” said Dr. Marlon Rimando, Arawko co-founder and author. “Federal trademark registration is an important milestone that helps protect Kumusta Pusa as we expand our books, educational resources, products and partnerships for children, families, educators and communities.”

The series includes titles such as Kumusta Pusa Loves Rainbows and Kumusta Pusa Loves Kindness, along with an activity book and related products. Arawko describes Kumusta Pusa as a Filipino cat character created to help children connect with Filipino identity, heritage and language.

Arawko also plans to bring the character beyond its books through a Kumusta Pusa mascot for appearances at schools, libraries, literacy events, Filipino cultural celebrations and other community programs.

The company said it will continue building the “Kumusta Pusa Loves” universe through new stories, characters, parent-literacy tools, classroom materials, licensed products and interactive learning programs. It also plans to pursue partnerships with publishers, schools, libraries, retailers, literacy organizations and Filipino cultural groups.

The trademark registration gives Arawko a foundation for the brand’s next stage of growth as it works to bring Filipino-centered children’s stories to families in Hawaii, across the United States and throughout the global Filipino diaspora.
