Filipino American dancer, actor and singer Ken San Jose will join the ensemble of the 2027 Broadway revival starring Rachel Zegler.

Filipino American performer Ken San Jose is heading to the Great White Way as a member of the ensemble in the upcoming Broadway revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Evita.

The production will begin previews Feb. 27, 2027, at the Winter Garden Theatre before officially opening March 25. The limited engagement is currently scheduled to run through Nov. 21.

San Jose announced the milestone on social media, saying he was still processing the news but was approaching the opportunity “with an open heart.”

“Making my Broadway debut in Evita,” he wrote.

San Jose said he was honored to perform alongside the production’s artists and looked forward to returning to what he described as his favorite place—the stage. He also expressed pride in representing the Filipino American community.

“New York don’t know what’s comin’!” he added.

From television to theater

San Jose gained wider recognition as a finalist on World of Dance Philippines, where he competed in the junior division and finished third overall. He also became a regular performer on the ABS-CBN variety program ASAP.

His theater credits include the Manila productions of A Chorus Line at Samsung Performing Arts Theater and Joseph the Dreamer at the RCBC Plaza. Earlier in 2026, he appeared as Mark Anthony in A Chorus Line.

San Jose’s television résumé includes Time to Dance, It’s Showtime, Gandang Gabi Vice, Lunch Out Loud, Dance Moms, Dance Video Revolution, Nickelodeon’s School of Rock and the Radio Disney Music Awards.

He has performed at concerts and live events in the Philippines, Thailand and the United States, including the Makati New Year’s Eve countdown, Iconsiam’s New Year’s Eve celebration in Thailand, YouTube Brandcast, VidCon and YouTube FanFest.

His music-video credits include Mark Tuan’s “Fallin” and “High as You,” Jason Derulo’s “If I’m Lucky,” and his own songs “Halma” and “Lose Control.” He has also appeared in campaigns for brands including Converse, Oppo, Uniqlo, BDO Pay and PLDT Home.

San Jose trained at Millennium Dance Complex and International Dance Academy Hollywood.

‘Evita’ returns to Broadway

Directed by Jamie Lloyd, the upcoming production transfers to Broadway following a sold-out engagement at the London Palladium. Zegler will reprise her Olivier Award-winning performance as Argentine first lady Eva Perón.

Zegler will be joined by Diego Rodriguez as Che, James Olivas as Juan Perón, Bella Brown as the Mistress and alternate Eva Perón, and Ángel Lozada as Agustín Magaldi. Olivas, like San Jose, will make his Broadway debut with the production.

Filipino performer Regine Sophia will also join the company as a swing, covering multiple roles when needed. Her credits include the Broadway production of Chess, Bring It On: The Musical and Come From Away.

Written by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice, Evita traces Eva Perón’s rise from poverty to political prominence as Argentina’s first lady. Its score includes “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” “Oh What a Circus,” “Another Suitcase in Another Hall” and “You Must Love Me.”

The musical’s original Broadway production opened at the Broadway Theatre on Sept. 25, 1979, starring Patti LuPone as Eva Perón and Mandy Patinkin as Che. It ran for 1,567 performances and won seven Tony Awards, including best musical, best original score, best actress in a musical for LuPone and best featured actor in a musical for Patinkin.

Its first Broadway revival opened at the Marquis Theatre in 2012, starring Elena Roger, Ricky Martin and Michael Cerveris. That production closed Jan. 26, 2013, after 337 regular performances.

The 2027 production will mark Evita’s second Broadway revival and its first Broadway appearance in 14 years.
