Filipino American comedian JR De Guzman has canceled the remaining dates of his fall tour, saying he is stepping back to focus on his mental and physical health.
In a video posted to his social accounts, De Guzman said the demands of touring had left him struggling and that he needed time to get grounded, stay close to family and friends, and continue therapy.
De Guzman, known for mixing stand-up, music and personal storytelling, described the decision as difficult but necessary. His official site describes him as a Filipino American comedian whose act blends sharp wit, music and life stories, while his recent tour promotion showed he had been actively booked before the cancellation announcement.
The response from fellow entertainers was swift and supportive.
Comments on his announcement included messages from Jo Koy, Nurse John, Joey Guila and Ogie Alcasid, reflecting public encouragement from peers across comedy and entertainment.
De Guzman has long woven family, identity and mental health themes into his comedy, which helps explain why his disclosure resonated with many fans. Rather than framing the pause as a setback, the reaction around his post pointed to a broader message about taking care of personal well-being in a demanding industry.
No timetable has been announced for his return to touring. For now, De Guzman has told followers he is focusing on recovery, time with loved ones and writing at his own pace.
De Guzman was also recognized as a TOFA100 honoree at last year’s TOFA Awards in Las Vegas but could not attend in person because of prior tour commitments.
