Filipino American community leader and engineer Richard Maghanoy has been recognized by the United Federation of Filipino-American Educators (UNIFFIED) for his leadership and service, as the organization gears up for its International Educators Summit set for Aug. 14–17 in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines.
Maghanoy, who serves as executive vice president of UNIFFIED Inc. and president of its Inglewood, Calif., chapter, was cited by the organization as one of its standout leaders for advancing educational initiatives and strengthening community ties among Filipino educators in the United States and abroad.
An electronics and communications engineer by training, Maghanoy is a graduate of Cebu Institute of Technology University. He taught electronics engineering for more than 12 years and previously worked as a telecommunications supervisor.
His career spans both engineering and corporate leadership, including work as a cell test engineer in California and executive roles in the aesthetics and wellness industry. He is currently chief executive officer and co-owner of iSkin Med Spa, which he operates with his wife, celebrity aesthetician Imee Ong-Maghanoy.
“Education has always been at the heart of my journey, and I remain committed to supporting initiatives that empower educators and strengthen global collaboration,” Maghanoy told TOFA News. “Through UNIFFIED, we continue to create opportunities that connect Filipino educators and inspire meaningful impact in our communities.”
Under their leadership, iSkin Med Spa has expanded from its original location in Rancho Cucamonga to a flagship boutique in Beverly Hills, serving a diverse clientele that includes Filipino American professionals and entertainment industry figures. The business has also become a platform for community engagement, reflecting the couple’s shared advocacy for wellness and service.
Within UNIFFIED, Maghanoy has played a key role in developing programs that support educators and promote cross-border collaboration. As California internal vice president from 2024 to 2026, he helped lead initiatives focused on professional development, research, and global networking among teachers and academic leaders.
His work extends to philanthropic and educational partnerships. Maghanoy has supported sustainability and academic collaboration efforts linking institutions such as Cebu Institute of Technology University and De La Salle University, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. He has also been involved in fundraising efforts for disaster relief and emergency assistance within the Filipino community, as well as repatriation campaigns for families in crisis.
In recognition of his contributions, Maghanoy previously received a certificate of appreciation from the Philippine Consulate General in New York, underscoring his role in advancing Filipino American community initiatives.
UNIFFIED’s upcoming International Educators Summit in Cagayan de Oro is expected to convene educators, researchers, and school leaders from around the world to discuss innovation, leadership, and solutions in education. The conference will include research presentations, collaborative sessions, and networking opportunities aimed at strengthening global academic partnerships.
Organizers say leaders like Maghanoy exemplify the organization’s mission to “break boundaries, lead change, and innovate solutions” in education, particularly within diaspora communities.
Born in Midsayap, Cotabato, Maghanoy later settled in Cebu before migrating to the U.S. His journey reflects a blend of professional achievement and civic engagement, with a focus on empowering others through education and community-building.
In 2022, Maghanoy and his wife, Imee Ong-Maghanoy, were also recognized at 12th annual The Outstanding Filipino Awards (TOFA), where they received honors in the Business category for their success in growing their medical spa brand and elevating Filipino American entrepreneurship.
