Woodside’s Little Manila will host its first Filipino American History Month Little Manila Parade and Block Party on Sunday, Oct. 18, bringing live music, cultural performances, food and community programming to one of New York City’s best-known Filipino American neighborhoods.
The celebration will run from noon to 6 p.m. A parade will begin at General Hart Playground, located at 65-01 37th Ave., and will be followed by a block party on 70th Street between Roosevelt Avenue and 41st Avenue, near the Little Manila Avenue street sign.
The office organizing the event is partnering with the Office of Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Woodside on the Move, Bright Spot Community Development Center, the National Federation of Filipino American Associations–New York State Chapter and the Filipino American National Historical Society Metro New York Chapter.
Organizers said the daylong event will feature live music, performances, Filipino food, community resources, and cultural and historical activities marking Filipino American History Month.
The celebration is designed to bring together Filipino Americans, neighborhood residents, local organizations and visitors in the heart of Little Manila, the Woodside area widely recognized for its concentration of Filipino-owned businesses, restaurants and community life.
Woodside has long served as a central hub for New York City’s Filipino American community, particularly along Roosevelt Avenue and the surrounding streets near 69th and 70th streets.
